Freezer filler! Buy a whole or half pasture-raised, non-GMO, soy-free hog. While purchasing a whole or half hog may feel overwhelming the first time, especially if you're unfamiliar with this process, there are many advantages to buying your pork this way for both the consumer and the farmer. Please read all the details below, and please reach out with any questions; that's what we are here for!

 

Price is $6.00/lb hanging weight for HALF Hog and $5.50/lb hanging weight for WHOLE Hog (whole hog estimated 150-210lbs hanging weight). Pigs are butchered locally; butcher fees vary based on cut selection and will be paid directly to the butcher (Farmstead Butcher - Gettysburg, PA). Butcher cost sheet is linked in the "How to Buy" section.

 

Rough Cost Estimate 1/2 Hog:

Avg Hanging Wt = 90lbs * $6.00/lb = $540

Avg Cut Selection = 90lbs * $1.00/lb (cut, vac, pack) = $90

Avg Elective Additional Processing = 45lbs * $2.00/lb (sausage/bacon) = $90

Total = $720 for approximately 72lbs meat in your freezer

  • Avg price of $10/lb, including bacon (typically $18/lb), chops (typically $12/lb), sausage (typically $12/lb), etc. 

 

Rough Cost Estimate Whole Hog:

Avg Hanging Wt = 180lbs * $5.50/lb = $990

Avg Cut Selection = 180lbs * $1.00/lb (cut, vac, pack) = $180

Avg Elective Additional Processing = 90lbs * $2.00/lb (sausage/bacon) = $180

Total = $1350 for approximately 144lbs meat in your freezer

  • Avg price of $9.40/lb, including bacon (typically $18/lb), chops (typically $12/lb), sausage (typically $12/lb), etc. 

 

  • Depending on cut selection, your take-home weight will be approximately 72%-80% of hanging weight.

8-10lbs - BACON

12lbs - Shoulder Roasts

  • Other cuts/items may include: leaf lard and back fat, soup bones, and organs. 
  • Ham and Shoulder Roasts can be made into sausage as well (20lb minimum per flavor)

 

**You are placing a deposit for either half or whole hog; this deposit will be subtracted from the actual cost determined by hanging weight at butcher.

  • 1. Select "Half" or "Whole" hog, and your deposit will reserve yours.

    2. Fill out the attached cut sheet from the butcher to select cuts and any desired processed cuts. Email completed cut sheet to nmshreiner@tasteandseefarmco.com. We will send cut sheets collectively to butcher.

    3. You will pay butcher directly for butcher costs and Taste & See based on actual hanging weight, less the deposit. 

    4. You will be notified when your order is ready and you may pickup from the butcher directly (Gettysburg, PA) or from our Farm (Dillsburg/East Berlin, PA)
