OUR STORY
3rd Generation Family-Owned Farm
In spring of 2023, we moved our two girls, two dogs, and 20 chickens to the family (Frey) farm, on a mission to provide nutrient dense food for our growing family and pursue a life centered around faith, family, food, and farming! Farm life and multigenerational living while chaotic at times, is sweet and rich. We are constantly growing, learning, and make plenty of mistakes (memories) as we navigate the abundance of day to day challenges. Our simple goal is to provide real nourishing food beyond our family to the surrounding community while prioritizing education around regenerative farming and healthy living in a day and age where these values and practices have seemingly lost their place of priority in the agriculture space with rising pressure to increase profits and yields at the cost of a poor quality end product, farmer wellbeing, rural community economies, health of the consumer, and detriment to the environment.
Pasture Raised Practices
Chicken
Chicks arrive on farm at a day or two old and spend the first three weeks of their lives in the brooder until they reach a size where they are hardy enough to thrive on pasture. Chicks are moved to portable shelters called "chicken tractors" which are moved one to two times a day to give the birds ample foraging opportunity and distribute manure. On pasture chickens consume bugs, worms, seeds, grasses, and legumes. Since chickens are omnivores, they require a higher energy feed than what they naturally consume on pasture. Our chickens are supplemented with a local barley-based (chemical-free, non-GMO), soy & corn-free grain feed. Chickens are processed either on our farm or at local small scale USDA inspected facilites.
Turkey
Raised seasonally, our turkeys start out their days in the brooder for the first 4-5 weeks of life when they are moved out to pasture, into a chicken/turkey tractor. They will be moved on pasture daily until large enough to be moved in paddocks. Turkeys will be moved out on pasture and moved to a new paddock approximately every three (3) days from about 6 to 16-20 weeks. On pasture, turkeys are able to find a substantial portion of their diet from grass, weeds, seeds, insects, and worms. Our turkeys are fed a local barley based (chemical-free, non-GMO), soy & corn-free feed in addition to what they consume naturally on the land.
Pork
Most of the heritage pigs raised on our farm are born and raised on the farm. We breed and raise Gloucestershire Old Spot pigs (GOS), an English heritage breed, which are excellent foragers on pasture. Our piglets are weaned at about two months of age, and are then moved to pasture where they are rotated every 5-7 days. On pasture, pigs are able to forage, root, and occasionally wallow, expressing their instinctual behaviors. Pigs are supplemented with a barley based (chemical-free, non-GMO), soy & corn-free grain feed. Our hogs are harvested and processed at local small scale USDA inspected facilities.

YOU CAN BE SURE OF OUR COMMITMENT TO PASTURE BASED, BIOLOGICALLY FOCUSED & CHEMICAL FREE FARMING.
If you are interested in learning more about why you should stop buying meat and produce from the grocery store and support a local chemical-free, biologically minded farm, we would be happy to answer any questions, just give us a shout!
